It is 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025. I’m at Stauf’s again enjoying the last Grandview morning before I go back to the Bay. It is nice to have extra time in the morning since my customers are on West Coast time and so I’m not expected to be available until 11:00 AM Easter Time although it works against me later in the day.
I’m often up even earlier but yesterday evening we had a couple of beers at the Grandview Theater then went to “The Avenue” for dinner and a few more beers. As I’m usually up at 5:00 AM it is nice to sleep in a bit, and somewhat needed after beer. As I get older I’m not as enthusiastic about drinking but it is nice from time to time to loosen up the conversation and really soak in the ambiance of Grandview Ave. The days of staying out at the bar very late are over however. I prefer to be in bed by 9:00 PM at the latest. Such is life.
I look around and Grandview is such a trendy place here in 2025. I feel both old and certainly not trendy. I’m currently in an OSU hat a Blue Jackets coat and have my Oakley sunglasses as the morning sun shines directly into our eyes sitting outside at Stauf’s. As the purpose of this trip was customer meetings in Florida, I didn’t think to even bring a coat and I forgot what 30 degrees feels like. However, the weather has been gorgeous midday getting up to 71 degrees which is better than Pacifica.
There are more people sitting outside at this hour having some healthy discussion. Thus it isn’t as peaceful as the early morning when it is only 41 degrees but feels more like 60 (which I’m used too in Pacifica) with the sun.
It is now 10:50 AM on Thursday, May 13th. I was interrupted during my post above to update the karate website with registration instructions for the upcoming full contact tournament in May. It seems that whenever I travel I’ll suddenly receive a lot of tasks both in my job as well as outside. In addition to karate the company I work for just made a huge announcement that I thought might cause more work as well. To my surprise, things have been relatively quiet which is good as I have to spend the majority of today on an airplane.
The Ohio trip was nice and the purpose achieved which was simply to spend time with family. I had no motivation to do much else such as go golfing at Wilson Road or go visit Ohio State while it is in session. Visiting Ohio is a bit disorienting as I’m here relaxing quite a bit and then am thrust back into my regular life which had been put on pause. I’m here in beautiful weather of 71 degrees and will be greeted with traffic and rain upon returning to the Bay. I’ve been gone for about a week and the only one who will greet me returning to the house will be our puppy Coco. I’ll walk in the door and she will run to me and give me many many kisses. The kids, who when little would also run to the door will barely notice being glued to their screens.
It is relatively quiet here at John Glenn airport. I got my bag searched again by TSA but this time it wasn’t the external drives but my coin purse I have on hand for parking meters. I usually take that out but it was buried deep in my backpack. When I return home I’ll leave it out as it really isn’t necessary anymore.
Well, I have twenty minutes until boarding and nothing left to write. It will be a long flight home as I have to go through Las Vegas. When going to the West Coast, always connect through desert locations instead of places with snow.
