It is 1:07 AM on Wednesday October 4th, 2017. Yes, that is not a mistake, it is 1:07 just after midnight. The reason is because after reading my son his bedtime story I fell to sleep right there; and sure enough he ended up moving all around into my space and waking me up. He also had a bloody nose which means I had to get the tissues and trash can. This means I woke up and when I actually have to get up I have a hard time falling back to sleep.
I used to sleep there through the night when he was younger and perhaps this is why I woke up so often. Since I started sleeping alone I hadn’t woken up until 5:30 AM and thus never got back into my old routine. But for those three hours last night I crashed hard and had very vivid dreams, good dreams that I hadn’t had in a while.
The dream was that I was driving to an event, a movie even I think. I was standing in line for a movie and when they let us in I saw a lot of people including Shihan. I got a huge slice of pizza for the show – not sure why they were offering awesome pizza at the movies. I don’t remember much else because I awoke soon after with my son invading my space!
And so I got up to write this post. I’m out in the clubhouse and the moon is very bright. As I have a lot of plants and wheatgrass growing in here the smell is unique in the middle of the night and early morning. I cannot describe it very well at all. The moon is very bright and it is a chilly night. Just now the silence has been broken by a siren. Something is going on in the sleepy town of Pacifica. I have my heat lamp on to chase away the cold but it only serves to heat up one side of my body while my hands and other side are still a little cold. The coyotes have started to howl at the sound of the siren.
It is now quiet again and I can hear the roar of the ocean. The sounds of the tick-tock of the clock and creaking of my old office chair are magnified ten-fold. Thoughts have begun to race through my head and I think of all that I can get accomplished here in the middle of the night. One of my first thoughts was that I need to find a timer for the light in my son’s new aquarium.
We bought him a small little cube tank for a betta fish. I put in bio-balls, a heater and a small air driven pump filter for it. I set it up about a week ago and it is going through the new tank biological process. I checked the PH and it is still much too alkaline for a betta so I put in some PH stabilizer yesterday. I can see that the bio-balls are growing some bacteria and the water is cloudy which should clear as the bacteria colonies are stabilized.
Well, the good news is I’m getting sleepy again and perhaps will not be doomed to spend the night awake and have to suffer through a very tired day today. I’m still thinking of other tasks I need to accomplish which aren’t much since we’ve organized a big portion of the house and have the exterior all taken care of. I’ve also gotten the majority of my Christmas shopping already done with the last item on pre-order which is Nintendo Switch’s Super Mario Odyssey. I also ordered Zelda: Breath of the Wild which may be too difficult for my son: I always wanted to have Zelda when I was a kid but I had a Sega and Zelda was for Nintendo. So I think I’m really ordering it for myself.
My thought with the Nintendo Switch is that it might replace the nightly movie watching. This will give us something interactive to do and a couple of games are two and even four player so we all can enjoy it. This reminds me that there is one more thing to accomplish and that is to buy a nice corner hutch for the TV which will finally make that corner of the house look nice. And while we’re at it we really should get a new TV to take advantage of the incredible graphics of the switch.
Just now a plane is roaring overhead towards SFO. It must be an international flight and I wonder which country it is coming from.
But back to the TV and things I need to do, another item is to buy new light fixtures for the outside of the house. Now that it is painted and looking nice it is also time to replace those three rusted fixtures. Perhaps I can make some headway on all of that today. The only things I really need to do for work are two conference calls in the morning so perhaps I’ll have time.
The time is now 1:29 AM and I need to try to get back to sleep. My eyelids feel heavy but who knows if I actually will be able to sleep. If not, then it will be a very early morning workout.
Goodnight.
