Tonight I thought it would be fun to watch ninja movies since Kai and I made it through our first fighting class in karate. For me, the best ninja movie ever was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I remember when this came out and what a hit it was. It was also unique in that the dialogue was in Mandarin with subtitles. Americans do not like reading subtitles and usually movies that are not in English do not do well.
Although I have the DVD I thought I’d check Netflix and to my surprise it looks like Netflix itself has created a sequel to that excellent move. It can be difficult to really enjoy a movie in this house though due to two young kids screaming and running around during the show but on the plus side it was fun to see them grab their toy weapons and imitate the fight scenes.
Crouching Tiger was another movie that actually added to my motivation to go to Asia. I was fascinated by the culture, the sound of the language and how exotic it all seemed. Even though I quickly learned that normal society isn’t running around doing karate all the time, I still find it very exotic and my fascination has not wavered.
