Journal Entry 8.13.2016

It has been a busy week:  it started last Saturday with karate class then a Pokemón Go hunt at the Ferry Building and a picnic at Dolores Park. In attendance were Kanako and Sakura, Anan and her husband, and Sakura’s English teacher (forgot his name).  Then Kent and Aki joined us at Dolores Park.

The following day I was up early to meet Dale and Emma who are on their honeymoon doing a tour of three cities in the USA, the first of which was San Francisco.  I met them at the Daly City BART after they had explored the city for a few days.  We went down south first to La Nebbia, then to Alice’s Restaurant and finally Thomas Fogarty winery.  Since they decided not to go to Napa I wanted to ensure they at least got to a few wineries.  After returning home we opened up a few bottles of wine and cooked out on the patio.  Peter came down for a few drinks as well.

On Monday I took them down Highway One to Pigeon Point lighthouse stopping at Pescadero Beach along the way.  Coming back we popped into Duarte’s – which is a bar from the 1800s I’ve always wanted to drink in but not had the opportunity – for a few drinks.  I also picked up one of their famous Olallieberry pies and was shocked to learn that the price went from $25 to $35 dollars.  Thirty five dollars for a pie is absolute robbery and thus the last time I think I’ll be buying one except for super special occasions.

Tuesday it was time for a hike from Rockaway to the pier.  I returned to the car halfway and drove to the pier so we wouldn’t have to backtrack quite a long ways.  At night Dale, Brandon, Peter and me went to the Guns n’ Roses concert at AT&T park.  Dale and I were the first to arrive in San Francisco and went to Mikkeller Bar then to Local Edition and Hakkasan to meet up with the other two.  We had a nice dinner then went down to the park to discover a huge line.  By the time we made it inside GnR had already started playing which was surprising because we’d just seen them arrive not 15 minutes before.  They opened with Mr. Brownstone which we missed but made it to our seats for the rest of the concert.

For me, attending that concert was like going back in time.  I was in high school when they were at their peak and have a lot of very powerful memories of that time period associated with their music.  It is very difficult to believe that was over twenty years ago.  Life truly does go by in a flash; nothing more than a waking dream.

Wednesday morning I dropped them off very early at SFO to catch a flight to Chicago, after which will be New York.

Thursday night I had a business event to attend and then Friday was busier than usual.

It is now 4:21 AM.  I woke up at 3 as my body seems to be a bit confused between the partying with Dale and the hard karate workout yesterday.  I thought about going to the gym but since I’m pretty tender from class I think I just prefer to write in the journal, do some reading and prepare for the weekend.
