Oyster Point – Tuesday, Feb. 24th

The sun in its first few moments, when it peeks over the distant mountains, is gentle and delicate.  One can look directly at it and welcome the day.  A few moments later its light is blinding; the day has announced itself and grows more formidable by the second.  Its light will stream through windows to awaken those still in slumber and force thousands of drivers to lower their visors.

It will arc across the sky for the next eleven hours illuminating both joyful as well as painful events in the lives of all those it shines upon.  Today will be the best day of many people’s lives and the worst day in the lives of just as many.  For the greatest number however, it will be a day filled with the tedious monotony of yet another unspectacular week in an uneventful year.  It will be a day that is unnoticed, which disappears into the weeks and months never to be recalled again.

On Tuesday, February 24th, 2015 I lived another day.  The blood continued to circulate through my veins, my hair grew slightly longer.  I was able to hug my family a few more times and had another conversation with a friend.  I experienced again the taste of a toasted ham sandwich and how cool a glass of water feels on my throat.

I saw the sunrise and recognized the day.  Everything that occurs today takes on a spiritual hue and I marvel at my very own existence.
