Today I’ve been thinking a lot about the 1970s. It’s not that I actually experienced a lot back then as I was born late in the decade but my thoughts were sent there due to the X-Men movie I watched a few days ago.
There is an absolutely astounding scene where Quicksilver saves everyone with his speed.
The Pentagon cops have the ex-men cornered and right when Magneto uses his power they fire their guns. That is when Quicksilver springs into action and the scene is played out through his eyes. As he is moving 9151 mph everything else is in extremely slow motion. What really makes the scene is the song they play that I’ve never heard before called “Time in a Bottle” from the 1970s.
I was so spellbound by this scene I had to record it for my own personal collection as it won’t be found on YouTube or anywhere else due to copyright.
After I listened to this song about 10 times in a row I started to think about all the cool cultural aspects of the 70s that I’m familiar with. For me, the first thing that comes to mind is the original 1977 cartoon version of The Hobbit.
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have been one of my favorite stories probably since I read The Hobbit in 8th grade. I don’t remember the first time I saw the cartoon video but I remember thinking how magical it was and I’ll always remember the songs, especially The Greatest Adventure.
The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.
Today and tomorrow are yet to be said.
The chances, the changes are all yours to make.
The mold of your life is in your hands to break.
I like to think that I’ve pretty much lived my life according to the spirit of these lyrics and an adventure I’ve certainly had which I’m chronicling on this blog. I’ve still got lots more from the past to fill in so the archives will continue to fill up. Unfortunately for my readers the juiciest stuff are private entries, for my eyes only. 😉
At my age many people think the adventures are over. The scary 40 is just around the corner and frankly I’m surprised it got her so quickly and I’ll expound on that much more but in another post.
As for the adventures, they are certainly not over! An adventure can be had just about anywhere, it isn’t necessary to cross overseas (although that certainly doesn’t hurt). And now that I have two boys, I cannot wait to mold them into adventurers as well! There are so many places to explore nearby, further away, overseas, on the internet, in books, through writing, in the imagination and even in our own backyard. Adventuring is a state of mind!! In fact life in itself is the ultimate adventure.
But I digress… No I don’t, I hate that stupid cliché and wish people would stop using it.
Getting back on topic I’ve been listening to Cat Stevens, The Blue Oyster Cult, The Who, Seals and Crofts and of course The 1977 Hobbit soundtrack all day! It is impossible to actually buy this soundtrack as it seems impossible to find but a Tolkien fan was kind enough to upload them all on YouTube which you can find in this in my Hobbit Playlist.
Ok, abrupt end to this post. My oldest little adventurer needs help with a blanket fort so a fort building I shall go.
