When the baby is crying and being very hard to console I have a failsafe method that always works just like magic. This song is “Do you know the Muffin Man” on YouTube and it must be this version, no other.
My extreme annoyance and that which makes me want to launch the Ipad down the hill is when YouTube must play a commercial before the Muffin Man song starts! In this case, these advertisements are directly damaging the company being advertised.
I DO NOT want to hear about how much I can save with Geico, nor do I want to know about my home improvement options from the Home Depot. I want the DAMNED video to play, to play RIGHT NOW and to be quick!
Apparently YouTube and the advertisers have failed to recognize that these videos are sometimes used in emergency cases and they should have some mechanism to make the video play immediately. Perhaps a “911” folder of sorts where you can put in a few videos that are completely commercial free and will repeat continually until manually stopped.
My second pet peeve of the day has to do with language. Today’s pick is “out of an abundance of caution.”
Companies and the government have started using this phrase about three years ago which is pretty much used in CYOA circumstances. “Cover Your Own Ass.” Basically, they do or do not do something quickly or as a common sense would have expected it to be done “out of an abundance of caution.”
What the population needs to realize is they could use this exactly as the corporations use it in common situations
For example:
I’m sorry teacher, I didn’t do my homework out of an abundance of caution because I was unsure if my answers were actually correct or not and didn’t want to risk a bad grade.
Sorry Honey, I’m home super late out of an abundance of caution because later means less cars and statistically the chances of getting in an accident are much less.
REMEMBER! Whenever you’ve screwed up and need a quick and reliable excuse, or haven’t done something as most people would expect, just say you did this or that out of “an abundance of caution.” SAFETY FIRST!
